Bareilly: BLO dies due to ‘work pressure’; admin says death ‘natural’

However, the management termed the death of Vinod Kumar Sharma, principal of Upper Primary Girls’ Co-educational School in Bisharatganj district, as natural.
Sharma was assigned to work on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls; This is a massive exercise being carried out in the state to weed out fake voters and identify genuine voters.
According to a family member, Sharma fell ill after dinner on Sunday night and died of a heart attack a short time later. It was cremated on Monday.
His son Shivansh Sharma said that his father was under immense stress due to SIR duties and had written to the block education officer seeking exemption, citing his age, eye-related problems and difficulties in running online business. He was supposed to retire in 2027.
Sharma was serving as BLO for Section 261 of Bithri Chainpur Assembly Constituency.
District Basic Education Officer Dr Vinita said that Sharma’s SIR study was completed on December 8 and it was stated that his death was due to natural causes as no autopsy was performed on the request of his family.
He said the deputy district election official was informed about the death. Another BLO, teacher Sarvesh Kumar Gangwar, died of heart attack while on duty as SIR.
