Politicians Unite in Opposition to GHMC Ward Boundaries

Hyderabad: Leaders crossing political affiliations have objected to the preliminary ward delimitation notification issued by GHMC and sought correction. The demands came a day ahead of the special meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday to finalize ward delimitation in the expanded GHMC.

Major concerns include unequal boundaries of districts, transfer of votes from one constituency to another, unequal distribution of voters, and lack of consideration for necessary infrastructure in each district.

Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender found fault with Mayor G. Vijayalakshmi for not sharing details with companies.

“The Mayor is the guardian of the GHMC Council and is responsible for conveying important issues to the companies. But he did not do so. The companies are in distress and they met the Mayor and conveyed their objections and suggestions to him,” Nagender said.

Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi and Rajendranagar MLA Tolkanti Prakash Goud also said that the ward delimitation exercise was of poor quality.

Congress MLC Dr. Balmoor Venkat said leaders’ views should be given priority.

“The delimitation needs to be done on the basis of population and topography for better management, taking into account the views of public representatives,” Dr Venkat said.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) also raised objections to the ward delimitation. AIMIM demanded correction in ward boundaries.

Similarly, BJP members met GHMC commissioner RV Karnan seeking transparency in the containment exercise. The BJP delegation, led by senior party leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy, alleged manipulation in the restriction made by the Congress in favor of MIM.

A delegation of BRS leaders led by former minister and Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav met the GHMC Commissioner on Monday and presented their party’s objections.

While Srinivas Yadav said that the delimitation exercise was not scientific, BRS Medchal MLA Chamakura Malla Reddy said that Medchal constituency, which is represented by 220 corporators or consultants, will be represented by only 16 members.

Other BRS MLAs who met the GHMC commissioner include Malkajgiri MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, Musheerabad MLA Muta Gopal and Amberpet MLA Kaleru Venkatesh. BRS MLCs D Sravan Dasoju and Surabhi Vani Devi were also present on the occasion.
