Met Office issues ‘danger to life’ warnings for fog and rain in matter of hours | Weather | News

Heavy rain and fog could cause flooding and cause travel disruptions, including flight cancellations, on Wednesday, a forecaster has warned.
South Wales and parts of south-west, central and eastern England are bracing for widespread disruption in the coming days.
The Met Office has warned of “danger to life” from flooding, flight and public transport delays and fast-flowing rivers in parts of the UK.
Flooding of homes and businesses and delays to train and bus services are likely in south-west England on Wednesday, forecasters said.
The forecaster has issued a yellow weather warning for rain between 10am and midnight on Wednesday for south-west England and south Wales.
The Met Office added that around 40-60mm of rain could fall on parts of Dartmoor and hills in south Wales.
The Met Office said: “Occasionally heavy rainfall, particularly at higher elevations, will gradually move eastward across this region on Wednesday.
“Following recent very wet weather, some travel disruption and flooding is likely across much of the warning area.”
The forecaster advised people to check if their property is at risk of flooding and consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
Elsewhere, a yellow weather warning is in place for the East Midlands and parts of eastern England due to fog.
The Met Office warned of dense fog which could cause “flight delays or cancellations” and “slower journey times with possible delays to bus and train services”.
They advised passengers to check travel companies’ updates and follow recommendations.
The Met Office said: “On Tuesday night, areas of fog will initially develop to the west of the warning area, then spread eastwards overnight. Patches of dense fog are expected, which may make travel conditions difficult.”
Yellow weather warnings remain in place for the south of England and south Wales on Thursday and will remain in place for most of the day.
The forecaster warned there was a “small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwaters causing a threat to life” in south-west England and southern Wales.
“There is a possibility that homes and businesses will be flooded and some buildings may be damaged,” they added.
A yellow rain warning is in place for southern and south-eastern England on Thursday, with forecasters warning of possible flooding.
Thursday’s weather warnings will disappear from 21:00.
