A clip that has gone viral shows a Muslim man offering a French man 4,000 euros to say the Islamic greeting “Assalamu alaykum” – and the French man’s unexpected reaction left viewers stunned. The video, which quickly went viral, captures the tense and awkward conversation in which the French man responds: “Go to your country.”
“Assalamu alaykum” is a traditional Arabic greeting used by Muslims as a general greeting, to which the standard response is considered to be “Waalaykum s-salam”.
When the person recording the video approached the French man and greeted him with “Assalamu alaikum,” the man reportedly replied in French, “I’m not telling you that.”

Thereupon, the man who recorded the video showed the French man the cash (4,000 euros) and asked him to say “Assalamu alaikum”. The Frenchman repeatedly refused.
Additionally, when the person who recorded the video asked him, “Should everyone who says ‘Assalamu alaikum’ return to their country?”, he said, “You should return to your country.”
