Police now looking for a SECOND person in connection with Brown University shooting as bungled investigation enters fifth day

Authorities have released images of a second suspect who was in ‘proximity’ to the gunman at Brown University in the ongoing manhunt to capture the fugitive killer.

Investigators said Wednesday they are actively searching for a second person in connection with Saturday’s shooting at a Rhode Island college that left two people dead and nine others injured.

Authorities showed photos of a tall, slender man who they said was ‘near the person of interest’ at the time of the shooting, wearing a blue jacket, gray hoodie and a light-colored bag slung over his right shoulder.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the tip line at 401-272-3121.

The announcement comes as the manhunt for the killer enters its fifth day and authorities come under increasing pressure after a series of setbacks during the investigation.

Authorities said they were urgently trying to speak to the second person for information about the unidentified suspected gunman, who remains at large and has only been seen on suspicious security camera footage.

In previously released surveillance footage, the armed suspect appears to be 1.80 meters tall, of heavy build, wearing dark clothing, a black mask and a noticeable limp in his gait.

Investigators did not elaborate on how the second suspect might be connected to the case, beyond saying they were “in close proximity” to the gunman.

The ongoing nature of the manhunt and looming questions about the investigation caused authorities to scrutinize the tragedy in the days following it.

Police faced backlash on Sunday after admitting they had detained the wrong person by releasing a ‘person of interest’ who was detained following the shooting.

The fiasco brought the investigation back to a dead-end, and on Tuesday authorities admitted they had nothing, asking the public for “even an incidental detail” that might point to the gunman’s identity.

A timeline of the suspect’s movements following the shooting showed the stocky gunman walking down a street in the Providence, Rhode Island area at 2:08 p.m. Saturday, minutes after the shooting.

Ring camera and surveillance footage showed the gunman slowly wandering the sidewalks for the next half hour; observers analyzed the suspect’s gait, including a significant limp in his left leg and walking with his hands behind his back.

The names of the victims of the terrible attack were determined as Brown University students Ella Cook (19) and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov (18).

During Saturday’s shooting spree, the gunman was seen targeting a single classroom in Brown University’s Barus & Holley engineering building as students prepared for an upcoming exam.

Law enforcement experts said the choice to open fire on a classroom on the building’s seventh floor showed the gunman specifically chose that room.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha admitted at a news conference Tuesday that authorities were “nothing new” and had no knowledge of “any motive.”

There are more than 1,200 surveillance cameras on the Brown University campus, but footage of the suspected gunman so far shows only vague, vague glimpses of a fat man wearing dark clothing and a mask.

President Trump sparked criticism of the lack of surveillance evidence, writing on Truth Social: ‘Why were there so few Security Cameras at Brown University? There is no excuse for this. ‘The situation is not getting any worse in the modern era.’

Neronha blamed the lack of security cameras on outdated systems in the building where the incident occurred, saying the incident occurred in an old part of the building, and acknowledged that all we could get was inconclusive footage seen by the public.

‘There is footage inside the building, there are cameras inside the building. “What we are broadcasting to you are the videos of this person of interest,” the prosecutor said.

‘I want to be clear, because there may be other videos released later on in the trial, there probably will be at some point, they show things like chaos after the shooting. But they don’t show it, do they, is this a person of interest?’

Despite more than 1,200 security cameras on campus, authorities have released only grainy, indistinct footage of the gunman walking the streets moments after Saturday's attack.

The gunman emerged as he leisurely walked past cops, prompting renewed scrutiny into how law enforcement allowed the killer to slip through the net.

Police said that in the chaotic moments following the shooting, the gunman managed to escape through the exit door of the engineering building and escape to the street outside.

By the time officers arrived on the scene and canvassed the building, the shooter had already begun to flee, and little forensic evidence was released that could point to a suspect.
