Arunachal farmers get a bulk market in the ITBP

Guwahati
Operated by a state in Arunachal Pradesh, an agency launched a task to help high altitude farmers to supply farm fresh vegetables and fruits to the staff of armed forces throughout the state.
On July 3, Arunaçhal Pradesh Agricultural Marketing Board (APAM) sent a vegetable shipment to the 59th battalion of the Indian Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Nafra in the newly created Bichom Region. The region’s assistant commissioner Boai Puroik marked the consignment process under the ‘Mission Arun Himveer’ initiative.
This initiative between APAM and ITBP is second after the ‘Mission Krishi Veer’, the Indian army and other paramilitary forces in August 2022.
Puroik said, “We foresee Arun Himveer as a bridge between our hardworking farmers and the brave staff who protect our borders. It requires the supplying of farm products from local farmers, self -aid groups, farmer producer organizations and farmer cooperatives,” he said.
The task guarantees the consistent supply of fresh, high -quality, organic and locally grown vegetables for ITBP personnel deployed in distant and high altitude poles. The mission is to establish a direct market connection between the armed forces and farmers and to ensure that local farmers have a sustainable income source.
The initiative reflects a self -confidence and mutual support model aimed at reducing dependence on long supply lines and intermediaries, freshness, fair pricing and timely delivery of farm products.
The land in Arunaçhal Pradesh has fought for a long time to produce large amounts of degradable items due to the dominance of large -scale, non -organic producers in Low market connection and adjacent Assams, Bihar and West Bengal.
At least 50,000 armed forces staff Arunachal Pradesh’s Kameng sector (Bichom, East Kawang, Tawang, and West Kamengg regions) and 50,000 people in the rest of the state.
APAM officials said that the demand from the Indian Army was about 17 tons of fruit and 23 tons of vegetables per day. Approximately 8-10% of these were supplied from farmers in Arunaçhal Pradesh up to 2022.
The state’s 1.17 Lakh farmers grow about 5.4 lakh hectares and produce more than 330 tons of fruit and 390 tons of vegetables per day.
