White House says US would be ‘lucky’ if Trump stayed for third term | Donald Trump

The White House has said the US would be “lucky” if Donald Trump gets a constitutionally barred third term in office, following revelations that Trump had discussed the possibility with lawyer and constitutional scholar Alan Dershowitz.
The bold claim comes despite successive polls showing Trump’s approval ratings falling amid widespread dissatisfaction with his administration’s economic performance and ongoing controversy over his links to disgraced financier and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
“There has never been an Administration that has accomplished as much in less than a year as the Trump Administration,” said White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson. I told Axios
“The American people will be lucky if President Trump stays in office longer.”
His comments follow Dershowitz, a prominent supporter of Trump who served as his defense attorney after he was impeached by Congress during his first term: He told the Wall Street Journal He said he informed the president that the constitution was unclear as to whether he could run again.
That decision contradicts the view of most constitutional experts, who say the 22nd Amendment clearly blocks Trump from running for a third term.
Dershowitz on Trump, Can President Trump Constitutionally Serve a Third Term? He defended a different interpretation while presenting a copy of his book titled. – to be published next year – at a meeting in the Oval Office.
“I said, ‘It’s not clear whether a president can get a third term, and it’s not clear whether he’ll be allowed to do so,'” Dershowitz told the Journal.
He said Trump “finds it interesting as an intellectual topic” and plans to read the book.
“Do I think he’ll run for a third term? No, I don’t think he’ll run for a third term,” Dershowitz added.
But Dershowitz’s books lay out potential scenarios in which another Trump term might be possible; Including that electors in the electoral college abstain from voting and have the House of Representatives choose the president instead.
The possibility of Trump running for a third term has been a recurring theme since he returned to the White House for a second term last January.
Trump himself has sent mixed signals. He told reporters in October that the constitution was “pretty clear” that he was “not allowed to race”, but repeatedly said he would “love” it.
Mike Johnson, the House speaker and one of his key allies on Capitol Hill, said he “doesn’t see a path” for Trump to run again.
White House chief of staff Susie Wiles dismissed the possibility of Trump entering a third term. Interview with Vanity Fair It was published this week. He told the magazine that Trump “knew he couldn’t run again” but was “fun” with the idea because he knew it “driven people crazy.”
But at the same time, the Trump store began selling “Trump 2028” hats to supporters.
Dershowitz told the Journal that after meeting with Trump, he showed a draft copy of his book to Miriam Adelson, a billionaire businesswoman who has donated more than $100 million to political action committees supporting Trump in the 2024 presidential race and visited the White House for a Hanukkah party.
According to him, he replied: “Is this real? Oh my God, I hope this comes true.”
He later confirmed that he spoke with Dershowitz when Trump brought Adelson onstage during the party. “I said, ‘Alan, I agree with you. Then we can do this.'” His comments were met with chants of “four more years” from the assembled crowd, at which point Adelson told Trump: “Think about it.”
Trump responded by telling the crowd: “He said, ‘Just think about it, I’ll give you another $250 million.'”
