Vladimir Putin issued a chilling warning of “serious consequences” as he launched a furious attack on European Union leaders. Speaking in Moscow at an annual TV event, he lashed out at the EU for its pursuit of using Russia’s frozen assets to fund Ukraine’s defense for the next two years, worth around €90 billion (£79 billion).
He said angrily: “Theft is not a very good description for this. Theft.” [in] secret… here this work is done openly.” Putin warned that the EU’s efforts to provide funds to Ukraine would lead to “serious consequences” and likened the countries in question to “thieves” for their attempts to target Russian assets.
