Knifeman stabs nine people after throwing smoke grenades near subway stations in Taiwan… then jumps off a building to his death

At least nine people were injured in Taiwan’s capital on Friday when a knifeman went on a violent rampage after throwing a smoke bomb near a subway station.
Taipei mayor Chiang Wan-an said the suspect then jumped from a building to avoid arrest and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Dramatic footage showed how the man threw a smoke bomb into the Taipei Main subway station, near the city’s main railway station, sending pedestrians running.
According to footage reported by broadcaster EBC, the unnamed man then proceeded one stop on the subway, exited the station and threw more smoke bombs into the street.
The video shows the man waving a knife at pedestrians before entering a shop, causing people to scream.
In a separate clip, paramedics are seen attending to an injured person on the train station floor.
Mayor Chiang said that four of the injured were in serious condition.
Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai said one of the injured was a pedestrian who fell to the ground after being attacked, and that the person had already suffered a heart attack before being sent to hospital.

Armed police patrol Taipei subway station after stabbing attack
Media members stand outside the Eslite Spectrum Nanxi store near Zhongshan station as the entrance to the building is cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape following an incident in which a man threw a smoke bomb and attacked bystanders, injuring several people, according to the government and local media in Taipei, Taiwan, December 19, 2025.
The smoke caused respiratory injuries to another person.
Authorities are still investigating the suspect’s background, Cho said. They demanded that the police increase security at train and metro stations across the island.
The horrific incident comes a month after 10 people were hospitalized in England following a mass stabbing attack on a London-bound train.
The attack took place as the Doncaster to London King’s Cross train was heading south towards Huntingdon, a market town a few kilometers northwest of the university city of Cambridge.
When the train pulled into Huntingdon, emergency services, including armed police and air ambulances, responded quickly.
While the attack was quickly brought under control after the train reached the station, police officers wearing forensic uniforms and having a police dog were seen on the platform.
