Prince William to take major SAS role in boost to UK military | Royal | News

It has been revealed that Prince William has taken on a new role in assisting Britain’s elite special forces and defending the SAS. The 43-year-old actor has reportedly privately agreed to take on the role providing royal support to the world’s most feared special forces, whose motto is “Who Dares Wins”.
The SAS is concerned with the welfare of servants and former members of the shadowy and elite military group based in Hereford since the end of the Second World War.
According to a military source, William only recently accepted the role. They said: “This is a very proud appointment and he will be a fantastic ambassador for the organization that has supported this secretive group of people for many years.”
The source said Mirror: “Prince William recently visited SAS and was delighted to agree to become Patron of the Association.
“…The Prince has privately expressed great pride in representing them and wants to ensure that these soldiers continue to achieve success and that their families are well cared for.
“He even wished them and their families well for their Christmas festivities.”
The King’s eldest son is believed to be the first royal to become directly patron of the SAS Association, although his aunt, Princess Anne, is patron of the London-based Special Forces Club.
The SAS Association was founded in 1945 following the post-war disbandment of the original unit and provides hundreds of thousands of pounds to members and their families in need.
William attended Major Mike Sadler’s funeral last year.
He was the last of the ‘SAS Originals’, who has died aged 103 and served under SAS founder David Stirling.
