For Joshua, it wasn’t as easy as he wanted. He made 62% of his strong shots, but the expectation was that he wouldn’t take the match beyond the round.
“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua admitted, adding that Paul held his own in the fight.
Paul came out bouncing around the ring, trying to land shots wherever he could. He landed a few quick blows on Joshua and probably won the first round. However, Paul’s strategy began to disappoint the referee and the crowd.
The Cleveland native would attack Joshua and try to wrap him up. He hit the mat several times, prompting boos from the crowd at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Even the referee had to weigh in.

“Fans didn’t pay to see this nonsense,” the referee said midway through the fourth round.
They definitely didn’t.
However, the duo brought the ball upon the referee’s warning, but Paul’s stamina began to wane. It allowed Joshua to step up and land the shots necessary to take him down.
Paul entered the fight with only one blemish on his record; He lost to Tommy Fury. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and he was coming off wins against Mike Tyson; the latter was one of the biggest spectacles the sport has seen in years.
He told Netflix’s Ariel Helwani that he believes his jaw was broken. After the match, he said he would take a break and come back stronger.
Joshua hasn’t fought since last September. He was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in the IBF heavyweight championship match. Prior to that, he had a four-fight winning streak with victories over Francis Ngannou, Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin.
