Bondi Beach massacre dad unmasked at last in final photograph before the deadly attack – as fresh new details are revealed about his trips to India with terror suspect son Naveed

The first clear photo of Bondi Beach terrorist Sajid Akram has emerged as new details emerged about his trips to India.

Sajid Akram, 50, was shot dead by police after opening fire on Jewish Hanukkah celebrations at Bondi Beach on Sunday night, killing 15 people and injuring 40 others.

His alleged accomplice, his son Naveed, 24, was seriously injured in the shootout but was charged with 59 offences, including 15 murders, after waking up from a coma on Wednesday.

Indian Police said Sajid was from Hyderabad, a technology and pharmaceutical city in the south of the country, where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree.

He immigrated to Australia on a student visa in 1998 before switching to a partner visa three years after marrying Naveed’s mother Venera.

According to local officials, Sajid has returned to his hometown six times since moving abroad for family reasons and property issues.

However, the Indian Police said that he did not go to the country due to the death of his father in 2017.

His last known visit was a two-week trip in 2022.

Sajid’s relatives in India told authorities they had limited contact with Sajid over the past 27 years and were unaware of his extreme beliefs.

It was claimed that two Islamic State flags were found in the car used by the father and son on their way to Bondi.

Police also allegedly found an ISIS propaganda-style video in the Campsie flat the pair rented before the shooting.

‘Family members did not provide any information about him’ [Sajid’s] “His radical mentality or activities or the circumstances leading to his radicalization,” the Indian Police said.

‘The factors that led to Sajid Akram’s radicalization appear to have no connection with India or any local influence in Telangana.’

According to local media reports, Sajid’s immediate family still lives in Hyderabad, where his elder brother is a doctor.

Indian authorities are in contact with Australian authorities investigating the incident.

Australian authorities are also investigating a father and son’s trip to the Philippines before the alleged terrorist attack.

Philippine immigration officials confirmed that the couple traveled to the southeast Asian country on November 1.

Their last known destination was listed as Davao, a popular tourist city on the southern island of Mindanao that has long been associated with ISIS activities.

Australian authorities are investigating whether the father and son attended a military training program before returning to Sydney via Manila on November 28.

However, Philippine officials deny that the area is a training center for ISIS and say there is no evidence that the duo conducted military exercises during their trip.

The massacre sparked calls for urgent gun reform after it was revealed Sajid was a registered firearms owner, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese vowing to push for tighter restrictions.

Police will claim four guns were found at the scene and two more, also legally owned, were seized during searches of the property.

Naveed’s charges include 15 counts of murder, 40 counts of intentional wounding, one count of committing a terrorist act and one count of using a firearm in public.

He also faces charges of causing a public display of a prohibited terrorist symbol and placing explosives in or near a building with the intent to cause damage.
