Prime Minister MK Stalin emphasized the importance of reading books on Monday, December 22, 2025, saying that reading a book is a form of meditation.

“No matter how busy you are, read a book for at least half an hour or even 15 minutes. [daily]. Children in your home are following you. Parents should set an example for their children,” he said while publishing three books, Theerarkal Kottam DMK, Dravida Arasiyal–Dravida Arasu Iyal and Muraiseithu Kaapatrum Muthalamaichar by journalist P. Thirumavelan.

Mr Stalin also expressed concern over the increasing addiction to short films and short films on social media that last only a few seconds, saying such habits prevent young people from focusing on anything.

“They suffer from lack of concentration. They should understand that good things take time. Reading a book is a meditation and helps the mind concentrate,” he said.

Mr. Stalin described the books as “weapons of knowledge” and said that, like all weapons, they would rust if stored on shelves without use. “Don’t keep books on shelves just to decorate your home. Read every day, it will prevent your brain from rotting,” he said.

The Prime Minister reiterated that as long as the DMK follows the “tradition of accumulating knowledge”, semi-educated forces cannot shake even the party that grows like a banyan tree.

“Education and development are intertwined. Tamil Nadu, which emerged thanks to Dravidianism, will not bow to anyone. The fascists’ dream will not become reality,” he said.
