Trump sparks fresh health concerns over latest embarrassing memory blunder | US | News

Donald Trump sparked new health concerns after appearing at his press conference to forget what an old shameful mistake America is in. The president mistakenly suggested that America existed 300 years ago while discussing plans to appoint Louisiana governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Monday. Mr. Trump announced his decision to appoint Mr. Landry to the post after Mr. Landry publicly said he wanted the self-governing Danish island to become part of the United States, insisting that his country “needs national protection.”
“They have a very small population,” he continued. “I don’t know, they say Denmark, but Denmark didn’t spend any money. They don’t have military protection. They say Denmark was there 300 years ago with a boat or something. I’m sure we were there with boats too.” The president’s forgetfulness comes as he prepares to celebrate America’s 250th birthday next year, which marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, widely considered the birth of the nation.
Mr. Trump has been active in announcing celebrations to mark the landmark date, including the Patriot Games, a new athletic competition featuring “one young man and woman from each state and territory.”
He promised to throw America “the greatest birthday party the world has ever seen”; including a ‘Spirit of America’ parade, honoring fallen soldiers and a UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House, among other festivities.
But despite his insistence that his health checks be “successful”, fears about Mr Trump’s cognitive and physical abilities have increasingly emerged in recent months.
Trump, who made headlines last week when he appeared to fall asleep at a Cabinet meeting, prompting California Governor Gavin Newsom to label him the “Dozy Don.”
Mr. Trump also confused Albania with Armenia many times when discussing the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The White House confirmed that the president had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after speculation mounted over photos of bruises on one of his hands; press secretary Karoline Leavitt blamed it on shaking too many people’s hands.
Ms. Leavitt also revealed the results of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan in October; He said it was part of his “routine physical examination” and showed that he “maintains exceptional physical health.”
