Georgetown University has cut ties with a United Nations expert facing U.S. sanctions, according to a watchdog group.
The UN Observatory recently reported that UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese was removed from Georgetown’s list of affiliated scholars. UN Watch CEO Hillel Neuer shared a post on the issue on December 21, saying, “Francesca Albanese, who apologized to UN Hamas, was suspended from Georgetown University.”
“Thank you, [Georgetown]. It’s time to expel all supporters of terrorism from our universities,” Neuer said wrote to x.

Neuer also posted screenshots of Albanese’s profile on the university’s website before he was delisted, as well as an image of the page showing the error.
According to screenshots posted by Neuer, Georgetown described Albanese as “an international lawyer and researcher and the author of various publications and opinions on the issue of Palestinian refugees.”
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Heather Johnston, founder of the US Israel Education Foundation, said, “Georgetown University made the right decision. Academic institutions should not give credence to Francesca Albanese, who has been accused by her democratic allies of anti-Semitism and reversing the Holocaust. Universities exist to promote intellectual honesty and historical truth, not to legitimize rhetoric that excuses distortion of history or violence against civilians. Accountability is important, and this step reinforces that principle.” he said.

In July, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions against Albanese, saying Albanese “engaged directly with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in efforts to investigate, arrest, detain or prosecute citizens of the United States or Israel without the consent of those two countries.” In his announcement, Rubio stated that neither the United States nor Israel signed the Rome Statute.
“Albanians have spewed unabashed antisemitism, expressed support for terrorism, and openly disdained the United States, Israel, and the West,” the State Department announcement said. The statement is included.
Many countries have condemned Albanese’s statements in the past, often saying his words were anti-Semitic.

Albanese in February 2024 condemned by France and Germany, after French President Emmanuel Macron said Hamas was wrong to call the events of October 7 “the greatest anti-Semitic massacre of our century.” “The 7/10 victims were not killed because they were Jews, but in response to Israeli oppression,” he said in his response.
France said Albanese appeared to “justify” the attacks and that his remarks were all the more scandalous “given that the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of racism was at the heart of the founding of the UN.” According to ADL.
Germany also responded to Albanese, saying, “To legitimize the terrible terrorist attacks of September 10.” [and] To deny their antisemitic nature is appalling. “Making such statements in our capacity as the UN is shameful and goes against everything the United Nations stands for.”
