All five men were bailed to attend Swindon Crown Court on January 23 on the condition that they surrender their passports and not go anywhere near Joanne Young’s home address or attempt to contact her in any way. Clarke warned men not to contact him in any way, directly or indirectly, by sending a letter to his home address, on social media or in person.
He told them, “This is for your benefit. If you get caught there, you’re back in there.” “You misunderstood and when you come back here you will face a completely different situation.”
All five men nodded when asked if they understood the bail conditions.
CPS specialist prosecutor James Foster said: “Our prosecutors worked to establish that there was sufficient evidence to charge and that it was in the public interest for the criminal investigation to continue.

he said Swindon Advertiser: “We didn’t have time to call the ambulance beforehand. It didn’t even cross my mind. It happened and it happened.”

“He was really almost level-headed. He was almost trying to be realistic and reassure Jo. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous.
“The main thing was communication, talking to him about what was going on and him telling me how he felt.”
His ex-wife said at the time: “I can’t complain, she caught the baby so that’s good.”
