A 13-year-old British boy was killed in Portugal after a man thought to be his mother’s ex-boyfriend stabbed him, then set off a gas explosion and committed suicide. While authorities said that the 13-year-old boy was stabbed in the town of Tomar on Tuesday, local media reported that the young man died at noon.

Lusa news agency reported that Portuguese police were called to the scene around 12:00 a.m. following a warning of domestic violence, and that both the child and the attacker were still alive.
