Brisbane anaesthetist Anoop Jain probed over racist comments on doctor Michael Akadiri’s video
An anesthetist working at a public hospital in south-east Queensland is being investigated by his employer after receiving complaints about homophobic and racist comments he allegedly made on social media.
Anoop Jain, an anesthetist who works for Metro South Health and is in private practice north of Brisbane, is accused of calling comedian and doctor Michael Akadiri a monkey after he commented on the size of his nostrils. It was also claimed that he told Akadiri “don’t be a homo”.
The comments were made on a now-deleted Facebook profile that used Jain’s name; here the poster identified himself as an anesthesiologist who assists with dental procedures.
The photo used in the profile with the name of Anoop Jain, who commented on the British doctor’s posts.
Moreton Bay Anesthesia, where Jain works, handles dental work. He also previously worked at New Wave Clinic, an online clinic offering medical marijuana products.
When contacted by this imprint, Jain said, “I can’t talk to you” and did not respond to a message seeking comment on the allegations against him.
British doctor Akadiri, who has a large following on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, called on his followers to complain to Australian health regulators, including Queensland Health and the Office of the Queensland Health Ombudsman.
Dr Michael Akadiri is a comedian and doctor based in the UK.
A spokesman for Metro South Health, the division of Queensland Health that covers public hospitals in south Brisbane, Logan and Redlands, confirmed an employee was under investigation for inappropriate comments on social media.
“We take these allegations seriously and launched an immediate investigation. We are committed to an inclusive and respectful healthcare and workplace and strongly condemn all forms of racism and homophobia.”
