Loud underground rumble causes panic in Kerala’s Malappuram

A loud underground sound triggered a tremor-like situation, sending shockwaves through residents in several parts of Kerala’s Malappuram district on Tuesday night. Citizens rushed out of their homes upon hearing the sound of thunder at 23.16.
The strong noise was heard in Vengara, Kottakkal, Othukkungal, Edarikode, Palachiramad, Parappur, Changuvetty, Kozhichina and Oorakam.
Residents of Amappara, Kaipallikkundu, Kottappady, Palathara, Puthuparamba, Pottippara, Kolathuparamba, Kakkathadam, Cheenamputhur and Arichol said they experienced a “tremor” around 11.15 pm.
No damage reported
While some citizens stated that their windows were shaking, some said that they felt the shaking even in their vehicles. However, no damage was reported from any area.
The earthquake, which occurred at 23.16 and was accompanied by a cracking sound, was reflected in the security camera footage of many houses.
But government officials said no concussion had been officially confirmed.
A similar incident caused panic in the region in 2022.
