Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 36-ball hundred powers Bihar to create world record highest score of 574 runs in 50-over cricket

Bihar rewrote domestic cricket history as they went on a batting spree, posting a world record 574/6 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday. Young Vaibhav Suryavanshi and captain Sakibul Gani led the attack with hundreds of soldiers at lightning speed. The record-breaking total came in a one-sided contest in which Bihar elected to bat first and took full advantage of the conditions, breaking the previous List A team record with ease.

Suryavanshi’s innings did more than increase Bihar’s total. He recorded the second-fastest List hundred by an Indian and also broke AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket, reaching the target in just 59 balls. De Villiers bowled 64 balls against the West Indies in 2015.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi lights up the Vijay Hazare Trophy

Fourteen-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was at the heart of Bihar’s batting storm. Playing with fearless determination, he scored a breathtaking 190 from just 84 balls, reaching a hundred in just 36 deliveries. The knock consisted of 16 fours and 15 sixes and hit a staggering strike rate of 226.19. It was his first match outside the top-flight T20 and only his seventh List A match since his debut against Madhya Pradesh earlier this month.

Sakibul Gani wrote the script of the 100 fastest Indian List

After Suryavanshi set the tone, skipper Sakibul Gani took control and made the game even more unattainable. Gani blasted 128 off just 40 balls and reached his century in 32 balls, the fastest by a List A Indian.

With 10 fours and 12 sixes, Gani surpassed Punjab batsman Anmolpreet Singh’s record of 35-ball hundred, set against Arunachal Pradesh in 2024.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ayush Loharuka ensured that Bihar never slowed down. He hit a quick 116 off 56 balls, hitting 11 fours and eight sixes. On a day when boundaries flowed freely, Loharuka’s knock was still high even if it was overshadowed by Suryavanshi and Gani’s unreal innings. The venue witnessed a staggering 49 fours and 38 sixes as Bihar’s batsmen dominated from start to finish.

Bihar breaks Tamil Nadu’s long-standing record

With centuries from Suryavanshi, Gani and Loharuka, Bihar comfortably eclipsed the previous List A team record of 506/2 held by Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022-23 season. The match, which saw Arunachal Pradesh struggling against an attack that showed little mercy, underlined the gulf between the two sides.

Ishan Kishan celebrates his comeback with bright faces

The run festival theme continued elsewhere as well, with Ishan Kishan marking his return to the Indian team with a magnificent century against Jharkhand’s Karnataka in the Elite Group A match in Ahmedabad.

Kishan scored a 33-ball 100 and hit 125 off 39 balls, hitting seven fours and 14 sixes. His knock came soon after he guided Jharkhand to a massive 412/9 in 50 overs and led the state to its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.
