At Least 10 Killed as Private Bus Catches Fire
At least 10 people were killed and more than 20 others suffered serious burns when a private sleeper bus caught fire after colliding with a container truck in the early hours of Thursday morning in Chitradurga district of Karnataka.
The accident took place around 2 am near Hiriyur on National Highway-48, when the bus was traveling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga overnight. Initial reports indicate that the truck crossed the center barrier from the opposite lane and crashed into the bus, triggering a massive fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle while most of the passengers were asleep.
Many passengers were trapped inside the burning bus, causing serious injuries. Visuals showing the bus completely engulfed in flames appeared on social media, revealing the extent of the tragedy. Emergency services, including police and firefighters, arrived at the scene and carried out rescue and recovery efforts.
While the injured were taken to surrounding hospitals, it was learned that many of them were in critical condition. Authorities launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
