Wiltshire: Woman dies on Christmas Day after ‘serious assault’ | UK | News

A woman in her 80s died after a “serious assault” at a flat in Wiltshire, police said. Emergency services were called to Keepers Road in Devizes, a market town in Wiltshire, at around 8.10am on Christmas Day.

Along with police officers, paramedics from the South West Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Despite all the efforts of the emergency service, it was announced that the woman died at the scene. Wiltshire Police said: “A woman has sadly died following an incident at a flat in Keepers Road, Devizes, this morning (25/12). At around 8.10am we received a report of a serious assault on a woman in her 80s.” Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify the victim’s relatives.

Wiltshire Police also said a 63-year-old woman known to the victim was also arrested on suspicion of murder. Police said: “He was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that are not thought to be life-changing and will be questioned afterwards.”

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Alan Smith, of Wiltshire Police’s major crime investigation team, said: “This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman lost her life on Christmas Day.

“We have arrested a woman known to the victim and I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this.

“A crime scene has been established in the flat and an urgent investigation is being carried out, which will also include house-to-house investigations.

“Local people will see an increased police presence over the coming days. If you have any concerns or have any information please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”

Police added that a cordon had been set up at the address and was likely to remain that way for the remainder of Christmas Day and until Boxing Day.
