Reservoir woman slashed at knifepoint outside closed Melbourne police station
A 32-year-old woman was injured after a man followed her to a Melbourne police station in the early hours of Friday and demanded her car keys at knifepoint, only to find the station closed.
Police said the woman was stopped in her car at the junction of Mahoneys and Edgars Rds in Reservoir at around 2.40am after the attacker began damaging the passenger door.
He was driving with a 22-year-old female passenger when he attempted to seek assistance from Reservoir Police Station; however, the station was locked and unmanned.
At the closed station, the man reportedly threatened the driver with a knife and demanded his car keys. When she refused, he cut her arm, leaving a superficial cut, before fleeing in his own vehicle.
The victim then drove to a nearby mall parking lot and contacted Triple-0.
Police believe the attacker was known to the woman.
Investigations continue.
The Police Union described the closures as a “frustrating necessity” amid the “current resourcing crisis”.
“The irregularity of these closures could confuse the public and pose risks to people seeking asylum when they seek urgent face-to-face assistance,” the association said.
