Congress Is An Ideology And Ideologies Never Die: Mallikarjun Kharge

New Delhi: On the 140th Foundation Day of the Congress, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday claimed that the Congress is an ideology and ideologies never die. Addressing party leaders and workers at the party’s Indira Bhawan headquarters, the party president said India has become the world’s largest democracy thanks to the great leaders of the Congress.
“Today, on the Foundation Day, I want to say this clearly to those who say ‘The Congress is over’. I want to tell them that our power may have decreased, but our spine is still upright. We have not compromised on the Constitution, secularism, or the rights of the poor. We may not be in power, but we will not bargain.”
Noting that the Congress has never sought votes in the name of religion, Kharge claimed that the party has never spread hatred in the name of temples-mosques.
“Congress unites. BJP divides. Congress kept religion only as a belief. But some people turned religion into politics. Today, BJP is in power, but they do not have the truth. That is why sometimes the data is hidden, sometimes the census is stopped, and sometimes they talk about changing the Constitution.”
The Congress president said that the ancestors of those who speak about history today have run away from history. “Congress is an ideology and ideologies never die,” he asserted.
Kharge also said that 2025 marks the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi becoming Congress president, 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution and 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
He said that the year 2026 is the 200th anniversary of Dadabhai Naoroji, the centenary of Sarojini Naidu becoming the Congress president and it is also the centenary of the song ‘Jhanda Uucha Rahe Hamara’ which was sung for the first time in the Kanpur Congress Session in December 1925.
Noting that many countries gained freedom during the independence period of India, the Congress President stated that some countries failed and dictatorship prevailed in others.
“One country where democracy is alive is only India. It is thanks to the great leaders of the Congress that India has become the largest democracy in the world,” he claimed.
Kharge said the Indian National Congress has always worked for the welfare, empowerment and inclusive development of the people of India. “We strongly believe in equality of opportunity in political, economic and social rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.”
“The glorious 140-year history of the Indian National Congress tells the great saga of truth, non-violence, sacrifice, struggle and patriotism,” he said, while extending his best wishes to every Indian on Foundation Day.
A large number of Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal and Ajay Maken, were present at the party’s 140th Foundation Day commemoration event.
While senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh attended the event, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was not present at the event.
