Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has made shocking statements that their country’s top leaders are alarmed about ‘India hiding in bunkers during retaliatory action against Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed innocent people’.
In his speech at a public event, President Zardari announced that he was advised to take shelter in a bunker during four days of conflict in India and Pakistan. “(The secretary) came to me and said ‘the war has started. Let’s go to the shelters’.”
However, Zardari made two claims; The first one said that he was aware of the escalation of the conflict four days before, the second one denied that he was hiding in shelters and said to his secretary, “If martyrdom is going to come, it should come here too.” Leaders don’t die in bunkers. ‘They die on the battlefield.’
India–Pakistan conflict
India had launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorists’ base camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in the early hours of May 7, 2025, which further escalated into a brief four-day conflict between the two nuclear powers. While Pakistan intensified cross-border bombardment, India responded across the Line of Control. However, the conflict ended after both countries agreed to a ceasefire after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart to suggest a ceasefire. India accepted the offer.
