Crystal Palace: What next after ‘flat’ end to historic year?

After arguably the greatest year in the club’s history, Crystal Palace He will start 2026 out of form and with an atmosphere of uncertainty.

Since taking over in February 2024, manager Oliver Glasner has delivered historic FA Cup and Community Shield victories, the club’s first major European campaign and a record points total in the Premier League.

However, his side ended 2025 with a third consecutive Premier League defeat after losing 1-0 to Tottenham at Selhurst Park, equaling their longest losing streak in the league under Glasner.

Glasner and his players were reluctant to blame their dip in form on the grueling schedule as they tried to balance domestic and continental ambitions by playing eight matches in December.

But after publicly criticizing the club’s inactivity in the summer, Glasner did not shy away from voicing his desire for the club to add reinforcements in January on a full-time basis.

As Glasner weighs whether to stay at the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, there will be an extra incentive for the board to do so.

“We need support,” said Glasner, who has not won in five matches in all competitions.

“We know we are missing a few players who have always been involved in our targets: Daniel Munoz, Ismaila Sarr, Daichi Kamada,” he told BBC Sport.

Looking back on 2025, he added: “I think it was the best season in Crystal Palace’s history.

“It feels like we’re not too far away from being in these areas all the time. We’re missing the little things that are important to staying where we are.”
