Man named after allegedly killing ex-partner and her new boyfriend in Quakers Hill

The name of the man who allegedly stabbed his ex-partner and her new boyfriend to death has been revealed for the first time.

Anare Vunitabua, 47, allegedly killed his former partner Anaseini Waqavuki and his new partner on Sunday morning.

Ms Waqavuki’s partner, 30, was found stabbed in the stomach and hands outside her home on Illabo Street in Quakers Hill at around 5am.

The man was taken to hospital and died there hours later.

Ms. Waqavuki was found dead in her kitchen with multiple stab wounds.

Mr Vunitabua was charged with murder over the couple’s deaths.

He requested to appear before the Bail Division Court on Monday morning but the magistrate refused to produce him as it was not necessary.

Mr Vunitabua did not apply for bail and will remain in custody ahead of his next hearing at Downing Center Local Court in February 2026.

NSW Police Superintendent Jason Joyce said on Sunday the alleged stabbings were linked to domestic violence.

“We believe that the dead woman and the dead man were in a relationship,” he said.

“The man in custody had been in a relationship with the woman before.”

Inspector Joyce described the scene as “traumatic” and “challenging” for emergency services and neighbours.

A knife was also found at a service station on Richmond Road in Woodcroft.
