Case registered over Instagram reel showing country bomb explosion in Kerala’s Kannur

A case was registered after a social media account supporting Left parties posted a video purportedly showing the explosion of a country-made bomb in Kerala’s Kannur, police said on Monday.
The Kannur Cyber Police registered the case on Sunday following a report submitted to the Kannur Commissioner by the Special Branch of the Kerala Police Intelligence Wing.
According to the FIR, a reel showing visuals of the bomb explosion in the country was posted on the Instagram account named ‘Red Army Kannur’.
The FIR said CPI(M) and Indian Union Muslim League activists later posted comments threatening each other on the video, which amounted to an attempt to incite riots.
Kannur Cyber Police said that the reel came to light following the violence between UDF and LDF activists in various parts of the district following the local election results.
Police said they would approach Meta to get details of those running the ‘Red Army Kannur’ account and verify whether such an explosion had actually occurred.
The case was registered for wanton provocation with intent to cause riot under Article 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
