Royal Family Christmas sleeping arrangements include ‘fish finger beds’ | Royal | News

King Charles hosted extended members of the Royal Family at Sandringham for Christmas celebrations but a royal expert claims staying at the mansion isn’t as glamorous as people think. The property can reportedly accommodate approximately 16 to 18 people; But this means some guests have to make do with shared rooms and “fish finger” style beds.
Rebecca English told MailOnline: “In previous years I have been told that they have had to evacuate staff from their rooms. Edward and Sophie have been placed in some staff rooms as they have nowhere else to stay.”
The expert also revealed that the royal family was able to fit so many beds into one room by using old-fashioned “fish finger beds” that came with “creaky bed springs”.
The royal expert hastened to add: “It sounds more glamorous than it is.”
Since the Sandringham house is a private residence, it is not known how many bedrooms it has. Located within 20,000 acres of carefully preserved land, Sandringham was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1862.
There have been various additions and renovations to the £48.5 million property, and the original parts of the house date back to Elizabethan times, i.e. the late 16th century.
It was also one of the first houses in England in the 1870s to feature gas lamps, flush toilets and working showers, and today retains its Edwardian interiors.
Soon, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will move into the estate in early 2026 after vacating the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Marsh Farm is a significant downsizing move for the former Prince, who is probably used to the 30 rooms and extensive gardens of his current home.
The Norfolk residence is a former working farm with a modest brick main house. The house itself includes two reception rooms, a kitchen and several other outbuildings.
It is currently believed that Andrew will live there as an ordinary citizen and at His Majesty’s expense.
