Mohanlal’s mother Santhakumari passes away at 90 due to…, Mammootty pays final respects

Mohanlal’s mother, Santhakumari, spent most of her life in Thiruvananthapuram before Mohanlal brought her to Kochi after she suffered a stroke. The medical incident left him paralyzed and bedridden for almost a decade.

Malayalam cinema legend and Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Mohanlal suffered a personal loss when his mother Santhakumari passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, December 30, after a long illness. The actor was reportedly in the middle of shooting when the news reached him. In a touching gesture of solidarity, his long-time friend and fellow superstar Mammootty was seen visiting Mohanlal’s house to offer his condolences and pay his last respects.
Santhakumari passed away at his family home in Kochi’s Elamakkara on Tuesday afternoon. A native of Elanthoor in Pathanamthitta, she later moved to Thiruvananthapuram after her husband Viswanathan Nair pursued his professional commitments there. Before his death, Viswanathan Nair served as the legal secretary of the Kerala government.
Mohanlal’s mother spent most of her life in Thiruvananthapuram before Mohanlal brought her to Kochi after she suffered a stroke. The medical incident left him paralyzed and bedridden for almost a decade. He was later transferred to Ernakulam, where he received treatment at a multi-specialty hospital in the city.
The Drishyam actor was reportedly shooting in the city when the news of his mother’s demise reached him and then ran back home. Soon after, his close friend and fellow actor Mammootty was seen visiting the house to pay his last respects. As of now, Mohanlal, his family and close aides have not made any public statements or social media posts regarding Santhakumari’s death.
Santhakumari celebrated her 90th birthday in Kochi on August 10. Over the years, Mohanlal has often spoken in interviews about the deep bond he shares with his mother. He was also the first person she met after returning to Kochi after receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Earlier this year, the actor shared a childhood photo of her with him on Mother’s Day, offering a rare glimpse into their close relationship.
