Meghan Markle is named most disappointing celebrity of 2025 by her former hometown paper Toronto Star

Meghan Markle has been named the most disappointing celebrity of 2025 by her former hometown newspaper, the Toronto Star.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, spent seven years of her life in the Canadian capital filming Netflix’s hit series Suits before traveling across the pond with Prince Harry.
And after the two fell in love at the end of July 2016, the Duke reportedly flew under the radar to Toronto so he could visit the woman he was ‘swooning over’.
Meanwhile, Meghan has long gushed about her love for Canada’s first city, revealing it allowed her to live a ‘normal life’ during her Suits fame.
This was also where the couple decided to make Harry’s public debut at the 2017 Invictus Games, a sporting event for injured service personnel.
And more recently, in November, Harry thanked Meghan’s former hometown for giving her ‘a wife’ at the annual True Patriotic Love Foundation National Memorial Dinner.
But now the city’s local newspaper, the Toronto Star, has harshly criticized Meghan in an opinion piece, calling her the ‘most disappointing celebrity’ of the year.
The article, written by Patricia Treble, believed the Duchess had ‘all the ingredients’ to become a global sensation five years after leaving the royal family.
Although they do not describe Meghan as a ‘disgusting failure’, she believes Meghan has failed to deliver over the last 12 months and is ‘slowly fading’.

He criticized the mother-of-two for there being ‘no sign’ that her Netflix show With Love Meghan or her podcast will be officially renewed for a second season.
Local newspaper also targeted the Sussexes New ‘multi-year first look agreement for film and television projects’ with netflix – a reduction in their previous contracts.
The agreement announced this August is a first-look agreement; That means Netflix can say yes or no to new movie or TV projects before anyone else.
While Ms Treble accepts that the Duchess had a good marriage and is still ‘famous’ and ‘rich’, she believes Meghan should consider ‘not repeating’ the mistakes.
These included an assessment of the revolving door of journalists in Sussex; Six key personnel on the team had severed ties with them this year alone.
“Meghan could be famous if she was open and real,” Patricia wrote. Toronto Star.
‘It worked for the Kardashians, who got rich by working tirelessly to sell themselves to a world eager to see their latest reinvention.’
If the Duchess doesn’t want to reveal everything, she could go on a celebrity route whose privilege increases her popularity, the author added, noting Catherine, Princess of Wales as a prominent example.
“Meghan wants everyone to know and accept that she is royalty, without the obligation to work on behalf of the monarch, including tireless commitments to worthy causes,” Ms. Treble said. he added.

In a final blow to the Sussexes, she also made clear her views on Harry, who she said has ‘done very little this year’ apart from the Invictus Games.
The criticism of Meghan and Harry came shortly after the resignation of Harry and Meghan’s closest advisor, James Holt.
Holt, who has run the couple’s Archwell charity since 2021, has been reported as their ‘rock’ via Megxit
She served as PR chief from 2019 to 2021, a tumultuous period for the Sussexes after they left the UK and stepped back as Royals.
His departure lasted only a few days After Meredith Maines announced her departure from Team Sussex.
Harry and Meghan’s tenure as PR guru certainly isn’t the shortest, though he held the post of communications chief for less than a year.
Remarkably, Mr Holt became the sixth key publicity staff member to cut ties with the couple in 2025 alone.
For some, their time working for Harry and Meghan doesn’t even show up on their LinkedIn profiles; Insiders say it’s an ‘impossible, awful’ job.
In fact some former staff called themselves the ‘Sussex Survivors Club’.
There was no mention of any difficulties in the statements made by Mr. Holt or Ms. Maines when announcing their departure.
Representatives for Harry and Meghan declined to comment.
