Mindarie shark scare: teen stable in hospital after shark incident at Catalina Beach

A teenager has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a suspected shark at a beach north of Perth.

Joondalup Hospital said the boy was in a stable condition after a friend took him to the emergency room from Catalina Beach in Mindarie shortly after 3pm on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities had no reports of shark sightings in the area, according to the SharkSmart website, but a three-metre shark was spotted just 40 meters from shore near Port Beach, south of Perth, on New Year’s Eve.

More to come.
