Explosive fire kills multiple people at Swiss Alps bar on New Year’s

Scores of people were killed and others injured in an explosive fire at a bar in the Swiss Alps during New Year’s celebrations, police said.
Police said the fire occurred in the Alpine ski resort municipality of Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
“The fire started around 1.30 this morning in a bar called ‘Le Constellation’,” police spokesman Gaëtan Lathion said. “There were over a hundred people in the building and we see a lot of injuries and a lot of dead.”

It was stated that police teams were working to determine the cause of the fire.
“We are still at the beginning of our research, but this is an internationally renowned ski resort with a lot of tourists,” Lathion said. he said.

A reception center and helpline have been set up for affected families, Lathion said.

A press conference has been scheduled by the police for 10 a.m. The community is located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, approximately 40 kilometers north of the Matterhorn.
