The Traitors viewers heap praise on BBC show for introducing a ‘riveting’ fourth secret Traitor – but selected trio Rachel, Stephen and Hugo are left furious by huge twist

The new series of The Traitors has left BBC viewers on edge after Claudia Winkleman dropped the bombshell that there would be a fourth secret Traitor in their midst.
Starting on Thursday night, 22 contestants headed to Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands for the chance to win the £100,000 jackpot.
The game was played as usual with Claudia (53), the players gathered around the round table and Head of Communications Rachel (42), Cyber Security Advisor Stephen (32) and lawyer Hugo (51) were chosen.
But in a new twist, the host chose a fourth Traitor, whose identity was kept secret from the trio and the audience.
Claudia said to the Traitors in the tower: ‘I have a little confession. You are not the only Traitors in this castle. I chose another traitor at the round table. Secret Traitor. You still have power, but not as much.
‘That secret traitor will work alone. Every night they will give you the murder shortlist, you can only commit murder from this shortlist.

‘They’re a traitor, so they won’t involve themselves, and of course they won’t involve you either. They know exactly who you are.’
Shaken by the news, Rachel said: ‘This is a bombshell. I don’t know how it will turn out tomorrow. I will have eyes like a hawk and hopefully uncover the hidden traitor.

After being selected, Stephen said: ‘I’m so excited about this game of cat and mouse. My game plan is to keep doing what I’ve been doing throughout today. Being friends with the people I consider to be the most loyal.
‘We will find those traitors together, that is our plan. This is our job. ‘Let the games begin.’

Meanwhile, Hugo said he believes he has a great poker face: ‘I guess so, so I’m a lawyer and I have to stand in front of the jury and be kind of a big cuddly teddy bear.’

So yeah, I hope so because it’s important for my business.’
He said the following about the Secret Traitor incident: ‘The main purpose of being a traitor is to have perfect knowledge. And now there’s someone above us in the chain’.
