Moment CNN anchors say Meghan’s jam is ‘something to say goodbye to’ in the New Year on US television

Meghan Markle’s song was featured in a US TV roundup of pop culture moments in 2025, along with Labubu dolls, the 6-7 meme and Katy Perry’s much-derided spaceflight.
Viewers were divided over whether Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen’s mention of Meghan’s fruit spread on CNN’s ‘New Year’s Eve Live’ in Times Square was praise or a devastating misconception.
Cooper, 58, and Cohen, 57, have been hosting the show for the ninth year and, as always, enjoyed a few drinks while watching together in New York in 2026.
In a hilarious segment of the show, the friends re-read their version of Margaret Wise Brown’s children’s book Goodnight Moon just before midnight.
Each year features a number of pop culture references, some good and bad, and the hosts always burst out laughing. As we bid farewell to 2025, the Duchess of Sussex was mentioned in the first few lines.
After hilariously mispronouncing Labubu, Cooper said: “Goodnight Labubu clipped to Birkin, goodnight Kim Kardashian’s corset complete with merkin.”
‘Good night Coldplay kiss cam. “Good night, Meghan Markle is your jam,” Andy Cohen continued before taking a sip of his tequila.

Meghan’s fans were delighted by the tribute to her song As Ever, released in 2025
Cooper and Cohen then said goodbye to KPop Demon Hunters, Coldplay’s kiss cam, Katy Perry in space, Nicole Kidman’s ‘post-breakup hair’ and the ‘sibling love’ in White Lotus.
They also wished Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce well ahead of their wedding, and praised Destiny’s Child’s reunion at a Beyonce concert in the summer.
The annual Good Night Moon sketch divided the audience into two.
Meghan supporters, known as the Sussex Squad, claimed the mention of her song As Ever was a sign she was ‘centre stage’ in the US.
One fan tweeted: ‘Meghan Sussex’s relevance matters. #WeLoveYouMeghan’.
Another wrote: ‘Starting the new year with love and appreciation. May he feel this love all year round.’
But others were less affected.
One of Meghan’s critics said: ‘It’s truly fascinating to watch her fans twist everything to make it look like they’re successful.’
Another said: ‘No more free music for Anderson Cooper’ – which was a reference to the fact he interviewed Harry after releasing Spare.
A third wrote: ‘This was not flattering at all.’
Cohen took a sip of booze after reading the line about the Duchess of Sussex
Cooper and Cohen’s show has a huge fan base in the US; especially since they always seemed to be drunk.
On the same show, Andy Cohen released a wild rant about outgoing New York City Mayor Eric Adams that caused Anderson Cooper to visibly cringe live on CNN.
Cohen and Cooper were putting down drinks and joking on-air for hours as they covered the celebrations in New York City.
Shortly after the ball dropped in Times Square, Cohen, drink in hand, said: ‘Watching the chaotic final moments of Mayor Adams…’
Before he could finish his thought, Cooper interrupted him and said: ‘Oh no. ‘I’m out.’
“I just want to say…” Cohen continued before Cooper interrupted again. ‘Don’t do it,’ he said, trying to get out of the frame.
But the camera struggled to keep the co-host in frame. “He got his pardon,” Cohen continued with a slight insult, before Cooper once again said, “I’m out.”
‘I’m just saying, great, you got your pardon. Ride off into the sunset,’ Cohen said. ‘We will play with what we have, with what you left us.’
“He can’t help himself,” Cooper said later.
