Horror ISIS-inspired terror attack on New Year’s Eve thwarted | World | News

A horrific ISIS-inspired terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve was thwarted by the FBI and its law enforcement partners. FBI Charlotte says potential terrorist attack may have occurred in North Carolina.
“#BREAKING #FBI and our law enforcement partners thwarted a possible terrorist attack in North Carolina on New Year’s Eve. Plot directly inspired by ISIS,” FBI Charlotte wrote in a post about X. US Attorney WDNC and the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge will announce the details at a press conference in Charlotte at 11.30am (4.30pm BST).
This comes after another scare and credible terrorist threat was thwarted by the FBI; Four people were arrested and charged with planning coordinated New Year’s Eve bombings in Los Angeles.
Members of a radical offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF), an anti-colonial activist group, allegedly planned attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in five different locations, the FBI told Fox News Digital.
All four were arrested in California’s Lucerne Valley, where they were believed to be testing IEDs, and have since been charged with conspiracy and possession of a destructive device.
A fifth man believed to be part of the group was arrested in New Orleans on Monday for allegedly planning a separate attack, the FBI said.
A TILF Instagram account said its founding chapter was in Los Angeles and that its goal was to save “Turtle Island,” an indigenous name used to refer to North America, from an “illegal American empire.”
New Year’s Eve celebrations have been canceled in cities around the world as local authorities fear a terrorist threat in cities from Sydney to Paris. Plans for thousands of people looking to celebrate the start of 2026 have been dashed as reports of planned attacks led to the cancellation of parties, fireworks and live events.
