Maharashtra’s first woman DGP Rashmi Shukla retires

Rashmi Shukla, Maharashtra’s first woman Director General of Police (DGP), retired on Saturday, January 3, 2026, after completing 37 and a half years in the Indian Police Service.
Ms Shukla was awarded the Guard of Honour, at the farewell ceremony held in the presence of senior officers at Naigaon Police Station in Bhoiwada.
Speaking to the press after the farewell ceremony, Ms. Shukla said, “I am retiring from the Indian Police Service after 37.5 years of service. I feel nostalgic.”
“Maharashtra Police gave me a lot and I learned a lot too. Everyone worked as a team to take Maharashtra Police to higher levels,” he said.
“I am very satisfied and pray for good life and health for all officers and employees of Maharashtra Police,” the 1988 batch IPS officer added.
When asked about her experience as the first woman DGP of Maharashtra, Ms. Shukla said the post was gender-neutral and the job was the same.
“I have previously served as the General Manager of Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) and I am proud of it,” he said.
Senior IPS officer Sadanand Date has been appointed as the new state’s Director General of Police (DGP). Hailed as a 26/11 hero, Mr. Date previously served as Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and was recently reinstated in the Maharashtra cadre.
Date and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti were among the senior officers present at the farewell ceremony.
He will continue his duty in the following hours.
