A former student of a British school is among those missing after 40 people died and 119 were injured in a fire at a ski resort in Switzerland.

Charlotte Niddam, believed to be 15 years old, had previously attended Immanuel College in Hertfordshire, according to multiple reports.

In a statement published by several newspapers, the private Jewish school confirmed his disappearance.

The school called on the community to come together and said they were “praying for a miracle.”

Pictures of the missing teenager were shared in a post on an Instagram account set up to help find survivors.

According to the Crans-Montana resort’s website, she was working as a babysitter in the area.

The fire started while the partygoers were celebrating New Year’s Eve.

According to Frederic Gisler, police commander of the Valais region, the injured included 71 Swiss citizens, 14 French and 11 Italians, as well as citizens of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luxembourg, Belgium, Portugal and Poland.

The nationality of 14 people is not yet clear.

Mourners left candles and flowers at an impromptu memorial near the Constellation bar in Crans-Montana. Hundreds of people prayed for the victims at the nearby Montana Station Church.

Emanuele Galeppini, a promising 17-year-old Italian golfer who competes internationally, is officially among Italy’s missing citizens.

Authorities plan to investigate whether the material designed to muffle sound on the ceiling of the venue complies with the regulations.

Officials said they will also look at other security measures at the facility, including fire extinguishers and escape routes.
