Meghan Markle considering ‘U-turn’ on UK visit after Harry security update | Royal | News

Prince Harry has previously said it was “impossible” for him to bring Meghan Markle and her children safely to the UK following his court defeat last year for security reasons. Royal author Duncan Larcombe suspects Meghan could make a U-turn and return to the UK if the ongoing new threat assessment goes Harry’s way.

He explained: “The security issue has been used as an excuse for Meghan not to come to the UK over the last few years, but many think the real reason has to do with the public backlash she would receive here.” If protection for Harry and Meghan is reintroduced while they are on UK soil then there is really no excuse for him to stay away so he should consider a U-turn; “Given the new review, he has no choice but to consider it.”

As reported MirrorMr Larcombe added: “But effectively, she will be coming face to face with the British public and the family members she is trying to criticise. She will want to support Harry as much as she can, and she has also said she doesn’t like being away from her children for long periods of time, so there will be some difficult decisions either way. I don’t think it’s in Meghan’s character to eat humble pie, and if she comes to the UK humble pie will be exactly the thing. It’s on the menu for her.”

The couple have not been together in the UK since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. Prince Harry has made clear that the lack of official security is the biggest obstacle to him and Meghan coming to the UK for even a short visit.

After losing his case last year, he said it would be “impossible” for the family of four to return to the UK, adding: “At this point I don’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK.”

In September 2024, Prince Harry reunited with his father, King Charles, during a visit to his home country, which also saw him fulfill a number of work commitments. The reunion was their first meeting since February 2024, after the King announced his cancer diagnosis.

A decision will be made later this month on whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will receive taxpayer-funded police protection when they visit the UK.

This came after the Duke wrote privately to Home Affairs Minister Shabana Mahmood, requesting a full security risk assessment, according to the report. Guard.

According to media reports, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) will request that the risk management board reassess the threat level for the first time since 2020, with an outcome expected this month.

Prince Harry’s safety in the UK is currently being ensured on a case-by-case basis. The arrangement, agreed by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) following his withdrawal as a royal employee in 2020, means he will not receive automatic, high-level protection.
