Wetherspoons sells 99p pints in 600 UK pubs in blow to ‘dry January’ | UK | News

Pub giant JD Wetherspoon has launched its January sale in more than 600 venues across the UK; This includes the seriously cheap 99p Worthington beer.

For those not attending in dry January, this is great value for money at a time when we’re all feeling the financial crunch after Christmas. Other offers currently available at Spoons include 250ml of Coldwater Creek wine (Chardonnay, pinot grigio, rosé and merlot) for £2.99, Johnnie Walker Black Label and Tanqueray gin for £1.99.

Dry January is the term that describes the latest phenomenon where Brits have given up drinking for the whole month of January following their Christmas excesses, and for those who stick with dry January despite the temptation of 99p beer, the Wetherspoon sale has a selection of soft drinks including Guinness 0.0, Corona Cero and Stella Artois Gluten Free, Thatchers Zero, Kopparberg Non-alcoholic for £1.69 each.

Customers can also save on food, with an 11″ Margherita pizza and crispy chicken burger served with chips or side salad priced at £4.99 (with soft drink) and £6.52 (with alcoholic drink) each.

Offers valid at over 600 Spoons pubs, but prices at 200 other branches ‘subject to change’.

The sale started on Friday, January 2nd and will continue until Thursday, January 15th.

Tim Martin, founder and chairman of Wetherspoon, said: “Department stores and department stores are running their sales in January, so it’s the perfect time to discount pubs too.

“The range of food and beverages offered for sale in the bar aims to appeal to a wide range of tastes.

“We included a wide selection of low-alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

“I believe the January sale will be popular with customers.

“As always, staff at the bar will serve customers responsibly.”
