Indian Woman Found Dead in Maryland Apartment; Ex-Boyfriend Suspect Flees to India

Hyderabad: Nikita Godishala, a 27-year-old Indian woman, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Columbia, Maryland, with US authorities treating the case as a murder. Police identified her ex-boyfriend Arjun Sharma as the prime suspect after her body with multiple stab wounds was found in her apartment.
Investigators believe Nikita was killed around 7pm on New Year’s Eve, December 31, at Sharma’s home on Twin Rivers Road. Alleging to mislead the authorities, Sharma reportedly filed a missing complaint on January 2, claiming that Nikita could not be traced since December 31. Additionally, Sharma shared Nikita’s photos on social media and asked for the public’s help in finding her.
During a search of Sharma’s flat on January 3, police found Nikita’s body, leading to the launch of a murder investigation. An arrest warrant has been issued for Sharma, who is suspected of flying to India on the day he filed a missing person complaint.
The Indian Embassy in the US said it was in contact with Nikita’s family and was trying to provide all possible consular assistance. While efforts to track down Sharma and bring him to justice continue, embassy officials are also coordinating with institutions in India regarding the suspect’s travel.
