Rep Greene criticizes Trump Venezuela strikes that captured Maduro

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., spoke out against President Donald Trump’s attacks on Venezuela that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, arguing that the president’s focus should be on domestic policy.

NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Greene to respond to President Donald Trump’s claim that governing a country in South America is America first.

Greene said the administration should focus on Mexico and argued that Mexico was the source of fentanyl overdoses and deaths, before arguing that domestic policy should be Trump’s priority.

“My reaction here is to the Trump administration, which is running the Make America Great Again campaign, which we think puts America first. After four disastrous years of the Biden Administration, I want to see domestic policy be the priority to help Americans get on with their lives,” Greene told Welker. he said.

“After four disastrous years of the Biden Administration, I want to see domestic policies that prioritize jobs and affordable housing for Americans, and I want to see domestic priorities that put Americans first on issues like healthcare, health insurance costs being too high, car insurance, home insurance, and these are issues that matter to Americans.” he added.

“We don’t consider Venezuela our neighborhood,” Greene said during the interview.

He called the strike and capture of Maduro part of “the same Washington playbook that we are sick and tired of, that does not serve the American people.”

But he said he was glad Venezuelans were freed from Maduro.

Greene, once one of Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress, has fallen out with the president in recent months over the administration’s handling of the Epstein files.

After months of back-and-forth talks with the president, Greene announced she would resign from Congress in November.

Greene’s last day in Congress is January 5.

Trump repeatedly called the lawmaker a “traitor” and withdrew his support for him before his decision to resign.
