Dr. Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University to be set up in Bhadradri Kothagudem

The state government has decided to establish Telangana University of Earth Sciences to promote comprehensive development in higher education and meet the needs of research and consultancy in applied sciences and engineering, with special emphasis on earth sciences and mining.
Named after former Prime Minister Dr. The new university, to be named after Manmohan Singh, was created by upgrading the University Engineering College at Kothagudem. As part of the initiative, new courses and departments will be created in the university with the government approving teaching and non-teaching positions, besides extending financial support and ensuring infrastructure development under the Telangana Universities Act, 1991.
The Parliament met with Dr. He passed a bill facilitating the establishment of the Manmohan Singh University of Earth Sciences. The bill provides for the transfer of existing assets and liabilities, including teaching and non-teaching positions of the University’s Faculty of Engineering, from the administrative control of Kakatiya University.
Participating in the discussion, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi expressed concern about the detailed report on the development not being provided to the members. There was no information available about which courses would be offered at the university, which new departments would be opened, and the amount of financial support that would be provided to the new institution.
The government was establishing universities, but they did not have the necessary conditions such as teaching staff and other infrastructure. “Why are young people still unemployed and looking for government jobs? What are the new courses offered to make young people globally competitive?” he asked, emphasizing the need to offer courses that will enable young people to compete at the global level.
He reminded that engineering faculties grew rapidly in the past and said that the quotas in these institutions were vacant, including basic courses such as artificial intelligence and computer science engineering. Apart from private universities, institutions claiming to be universities, offering courses not recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education and other bodies, also had to be checked.
