Celtic SACK manager Wilfried Nancy after just 32 DAYS in charge

Wilfried Nancy was sacked after just 32 days in charge at Celtic.

The former Columbus Crew boss was appointed after Martin O’Neill took interim charge of the Hoops following the resignation of Brendan Rodgers in October, but has won just two of eight games.

Having only been appointed on 3 December, he became the shortest-serving permanent manager in the club’s history, leaving the club six points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts.

Nancy’s coaching staff of Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen and Maxime Chalier have also left the Scottish giants, along with head of football operations Paul Tisdale, in a major reshuffle at Celtic Park.

The club last witnessed widespread protests by groups of fans gathering outside the 60,000-seat stadium following Saturday’s 3-1 derby defeat against Rangers.

Nancy’s reign began with disaster; lost three games in the space of a week to Hearts, AS Roma and then St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup final. This was followed by a 2-1 away defeat to Dundee United.

Wilfried Nancy was sacked by Celtic after 33 days in charge.

The Frenchman eventually earned points with a 3-1 win against Aberdeen and a 4-2 away win against Livingston. But Saturday’s defeat against Rangers meant they surrendered 11 points ahead of their city rivals.

He had tried to implement a unique 3-4-2-1 system that had brought him success abroad in MLS, demolishing the system O’Neill had implemented during his temporary return to Glasgow, where he won seven of eight matches.

Although there were some positives in some performances under Nancy, including a terrific first-half performance against Rangers, the results were a failure and the players never seemed to fully believe in the 48-year-old.

“Celtic Football Club announced today that it has decided to terminate the contract of manager Wilfried Nancy with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement. he said.

The club thanks Wilfried for his efforts and wishes him and his family good luck in the future.

Wilfried’s assistants Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen and Maxime Chalier will also leave the club and take our well-wishers with them.

‘The club can also confirm that Paul Tisdale has left his role as Head of Football Operations. We thank Paul for his contributions in this role.

‘A further update will be provided to supporters as soon as possible.’
