Manchester United must stop experiments and get manager who fits their way – Gary Neville

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Amorim succeeding at United would be an “attractive job” for “any manager”.

“This is one of the biggest clubs in the world and always will be,” he told Sky Sports.

“Imagine being the guy who gets it right. And sooner or later someone will get it right at United. The club is too big to fail constantly.”

But Neville believes it would be “wise” for the club to wait until the summer to name a permanent manager.

“I don’t think the coaching pool is full of great talent right now,” he said.

“Look at Chelsea bringing in Liam Rosenior. It’s not something Chelsea are used to or should expect and that’s no disrespect to Rosenior.

“I’m not sure where United will go but I think it would be wise to wait until the summer when more coaches will be available from other clubs and depending on the World Cup situation.”

Rene Meulensteen, who was United’s first-team coach for six years, has called on the club to bring in a replacement player who knows how to win in the Premier League.

“They don’t want to make another mistake and quickly turn to someone they’re trying to fill the gap with,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“They need someone with the pedigree, someone who understands the Premier League, someone who has been successful in the Premier League.

“He’s someone with a strong personality and charisma. He’s someone with a good vision of how to take United forward.”

Former United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich added: “This has to be about the club and the team being in good shape.

“Because right now the fans will be tearing their hair out because they want to know what’s going on and they deserve to know. It’s a complete mess.”
