Arizona supreme court evacuated after package tests positive for explosives | Arizona

Law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco, are investigating a “suspicious package” found at the Arizona Supreme Courthouse Monday morning, dispatched to the agency’s Phoenix division X.

Around 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, staff at the Arizona Supreme Courthouse were sent home and the building was evacuated after a package in the building’s mailroom tested positive for explosives. 12News, Phoenix’s NBC affiliate, reported.

The Phoenix Police Department said the building was located about a mile west of downtown and that the investigation into the package was being handled by the state’s department of public safety.

The education office opposite the Supreme Court building was also evacuated.

The public safety department did not immediately comment on the situation.
