A fire broke out at Chellanam Fishing Port on Monday, damaging several fiber boats, most of which were abandoned. No one was injured in the accident.
Sparks flying onto boats near the southern recess of the harbor are suspected to have contaminated garbage, including dry leaves. “Around 8.30 pm, we received an alert that dry grass in the area was on fire. Firefighters from Aroor, Club Road and Gandhi Nagar fire stations doused the flames in an operation that lasted for more than two hours,” said an officer from Mattancherry fire station.
A personnel from Kannamaly police station said that only parts of a few boats were damaged in the fire.
