Holiday homes have always been relatively affordable across Europe, particularly in places like Spain and Portugal.
But with the cost of living rising around the world and Spain planning to double property prices by imposing a 100 per cent holiday home tax on Brits, it looks like this is no longer the case.
In many parts of Italy there is always the option of buying a villa for €1.
But if you don’t fancy the hassle of renovating a property, there’s also a region of France where you can buy a holiday home for just £75,000.
In the episode of A Place in the Sun airing tomorrow, January 8, presenter Craig Rowe heads to Limousin, France, with best friends Fiona and Tina, who are looking for a holiday home with a maximum budget of £80,000.
Craig said Sun: ‘I’ve spent a lot of time in France, but for this show we were in Haute-Vienne and I was amazed at the prices.
‘When we were initially looking at properties I said to my producer: ‘I think we’re going to struggle to get anything decent at this price.’
‘But you’ll be surprised that we found some really good features, and that really surprised me.’

In the end, Fiona and Tina managed to find their dream property for £75,000 – £5,000 less than they had budgeted.
If you’re looking for beachfront property, Limousin is not for you; because the inland area between Lyon and Poitiers is miles away from the coast.
But it is one of the greenest regions in France and is famous for its thousands of lakes and nature reserves where you can participate in water sports.
It is even called the ‘French Lake District’.
France Comfort Holiday Parks He notes that some of the most beautiful villages of the Limousin region include ‘Collonges-la-Rouge, with its red houses, Turenne, located on a hill, and Aubusson, known for its tapestries.
Limousin is also home to Château de Crozant, whose ruins can still be seen today.
Crozant was once one of the most powerful castles in France and was frequently visited by impressionist painters such as Monet and Guillaumin, who traveled there to paint.
Elsewhere in the area, the abbey houses France’s third largest library, as well as numerous shops and boutiques in the centre.
It is one of the greenest regions in France and is famous for its thousands of lakes and nature reserves where you can participate in water sports.

Craig added: ‘This is a lovely area full of little bakeries and taverns, they’re the only thing I love about France.
‘There are lots of beautiful French towns and of course lots of lakes, so you won’t miss being by the coast – and if you want to visit a city Bordeaux isn’t too far away.
‘There’s still an expat community and as we’ve seen properties are really good value.
‘While prices are rising all over the world, it’s great to find these pockets where you can still get a really good bargain.’
