‘Brexit benefits exist for everybody but us’: Readers on UK’s struggle as new poll says things are worse than ever

B.Rexit is making everything from the economy to immigration worse in Britain, a new survey reveals – and Independent readers weigh in on what went wrong.
Many have argued that the problem is not Brexit itself, but that decades of incompetent governments have failed to deliver on it, leaving the UK economically weaker and less influential on the world stage.
Many have emphasized that promises to “take back control” have failed because trade deals put the UK at a disadvantage, borders are still insecure and leaving the EU offers little tangible gain.
Some readers have blamed misleading pro-Brexit campaigns for boosting public support, arguing that the 2016 referendum was driven by emotion rather than understanding.
Others thought the outcome was too close to justify such a major change and should require clearer authority.
Some commentators have warned that the UK’s declining global influence under Donald Trump and its over-reliance on the US makes it increasingly necessary to rejoin the EU, but they have acknowledged that this will come with conditions and lost privileges.
Here’s what you need to say:
Brexit has benefits but not for the UK
So-called Brexit benefits apply to everyone outside the UK. Take trade agreements, for example. While the UK was still in the EU, the EU was running the negotiations, and no matter how long it took, the EU always made sure the deal was good for the EU.
Now Britain can make its own trade agreements on its own. Every trading partner has pulled the UK across the table because, firstly, the UK market is 69 million strong (the EU market is over 450 million strong) and secondly, the UK doesn’t have time; He is desperate to demonstrate a trade deal. All trading partners used these “Brexit benefits” to their advantage.
Brexit has its benefits, but it doesn’t apply to the UK.

Not Brexit, incompetent leaders
The problem is not Brexit, but too many incompetent prime ministers with hopeless policies. The EU mandarins told us that we would be punished for daring to leave the EU and deterring others from leaving. The EU wants the UK to fail and does nothing to stop illegal immigrants crossing its borders and reaching the UK. The EU wants us to go back to the EU, pay them huge fees, but beg on our knees to rejoin.

No rejoins
Living in the EU, I take comfort in knowing that the disruptors and disruptors have completely disappeared.
It is enough to read some hostile comments to remember that there is no sense of acceptance of European morality. At best, they still see the EU as just a market.
There is no reunification and what happens in the EU is none of their business.

Voters regret decision after decision
What do British voters know? First they voted for Brexit, now they say it made things worse. If the UK rejoins, I bet in six months they will say that rejoining made things worse.
The same goes for general elections. They elect a government with a solid majority and six months later they say the government is in trouble. It happened to the Conservative Party, it’s happening to Labor now, it’s going to happen to Reform or whoever happens to run the country next.

Brexit doesn’t work
In fact, it was Brexit not working that made matters worse, with the last 30 years of useless governments.
Things won’t get better until his party is replaced by a government determined to do what’s necessary for the country.
That’s why Reform is ahead in the polls, because they say they’re committed to it.

Trump and loss of influence
One obvious thing that I believe will force us to return to the EU is, on the contrary, the USA and Trump. It is clear that we no longer have any influence on world politics. The USA, China and Russia see us as a joke. We talk but we don’t have the means to support anything. We have a nuclear deterrent, but it is actually controlled by the United States and we have neither the money nor any other tools available to us. We can no longer trade in history.
So we have a political choice before us that the idiots in our parliament will have to make sooner or later: become increasingly irrelevant and ignored by everyone and watch our economy continue to stagnate, or rejoin the EU where we have influence and power and help this bloc become a force in the new world of autocratic US imperialism.

A referendum on a knife edge
Who could make such an important decision as leaving the EU after such a stark 50/50 vote result? The issues and predictions needed to be clarified, investigated why people voted the way they did, and then re-examined, perhaps with a minimum Brexit vote margin of 60/40 to trigger leave or safely remain, for example.

No visible benefit
All surveys and economic analysis clearly show that Brexit is damaging the UK economy; Apart from the false and empty slogan of “taking back control” there are no visible benefits. With the UK economy stagnating and no immediate solution from Rachel Reeves, Keir Starmer needs to seriously open up our access to European markets, without the delaying effects of cross-border bureaucracy.
“I don’t have time to stand under the branches and stare as long as a sheep or a cow.” Time is of the essence for the UK’s economic prosperity and Starmer’s political future.

We will not regain the old conditions
66 percent say Brexit is harming Britain. Only 22 percent say it has had a positive impact. What are you waiting for, Starmer? What are you afraid of?
But even if the EU welcomes us back, it will be on its own terms. We have lost the excellent conditions we had before Brexit. We won’t be able to get them back. There will be conditions. We will have to accept these if we want to stop the damage Brexit is doing to the UK.
It is only natural that the bloc, which has caused so much turmoil and so much extra work and change for our neighbours, with the fatal stupidity of Brexit, would want to protect its members. They don’t need England. If they needed us, the union would have collapsed in the last 10 years.

Choices not opinions
Flash flash: The government doesn’t care what we think. They just want to win elections.
The only reason we were given a referendum on EU membership in 2016 was because David Cameron used it to sideline Ukip and win the 2015 election to stay in power (the gamble ultimately backfired for him, but that’s another story).
Meanwhile, Labor has no incentive to propose a new referendum. He may win back the few votes he lost to the Greens, but the real threat now is Reform.

An unreasonable decision
The reason people on the continent don’t understand Brexit is that it is completely illogical. There is no point in cutting yourself in an environment where costs and inflation are much higher, there are forfeitures and the geopolitical position is much weaker.
But it’s over. You voted for this twice and now you need to make the best of the situation. You are committed to Brexit whether you like it or not.

You don’t change anything from the outside
Yes, some things were wrong within the EU, but you can never change things from the outside. Brexit was a rude economic and humanitarian decision. The sooner we return to Europe, where we belong, and move away from the unbalanced Trump (only 15 percent of our trade is with the US, and this could be disrupted at Trump’s will), the better.
