UIDAI launches mascot Udai to simplify communication on public understanding of Aadhaar

New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India has launched a human-friendly mascot named Udai to facilitate communication for public understanding of Aadhaar services, an official statement said on Thursday.

The mascot was chosen from several entries received through a national design and naming competition on the MyGov platform.

“UIDAI today launched Aadhaar mascot, a new communication companion for residents, to make it easier for the public to understand Aadhaar services. The Aadhaar mascot named Udai will help make Aadhaar-related information more relatable and people-friendly,” the statement said.
The mascot is expected to simplify communication on Aadhaar services, including those related to updates, authentication, offline verification, selective information sharing, adoption of new technology and responsible use, among others.

UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra unveiled the mascot and congratulated the winners at an event in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mishra said the launch of the mascot marks another step in UIDAI’s ongoing efforts to make Aadhaar communications simpler, more inclusive and more relatable for India’s over a billion residents.
While launching the mascot, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said that by inviting people to design and name this mascot through an open national competition, UIDAI has reaffirmed the core principle of Aadhaar: participation builds trust and acceptance. UIDAI receives donations from students, professionals, designers etc. across the country. It received 875 entries, each offering a unique interpretation of what Aadhaar represents to them.

Arun Gokul from Thrissur, Kerala won the first prize in the mascot design competition. Idris Dawaiwala from Pune, Maharashtra and Krishna Sharma from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh won the second and third awards respectively.

The statement stated that Riya Jain from Bhopal won the first prize in the mascot name competition, followed by Idris Dawaiwala from Pune and Maharaj Saran Chellapilla from Hyderabad in second and third positions respectively.
